Moscow International Mathematics Olympiad

The Moscow International Mathematics Olympiad was proudly established by MCS School in 2023 to foster a love for mathematics and promote intellectual excellence among students from various international schools in Moscow. This prestigious event offers young mathematicians the opportunity to showcase their problem-solving skills and engage in friendly competition with their peers.

The Olympiad is conducted in English and consists of two exciting rounds: the School Round and the Interschool Round.

All participant schools get a set of tasks for the two age categories of the Olympiad.

During the first round the tasks are attempted by all the students of a school in a particular age category. As a result of the School Round each school creates two teams of 5 participants – one in each age category – to participate in the Interschool Round.

The Interschool Round is conducted at one of the participant schools. Teams of 5 students in each age category participate in the competition.

During the School Round, all students within a particular age category from each participating school tackle a diverse set of challenging math tasks. This round serves as a platform for students to demonstrate their abilities and knowledge, while also encouraging collaboration and teamwork among classmates. Based on their performance, each school selects two teams of five participants—one team for each age category—to represent them in the subsequent round.

The Interschool Round is a thrilling event where the top teams from each school come together to compete. Hosted at one of the participating schools, this round brings together aspiring mathematicians from different backgrounds to engage in a stimulating competition. Teams will face off in a series of rigorous tasks designed to test their analytical thinking, creativity, and mathematical prowess.

The Interschool Round includes team tasks completed within a certain time and judged upon the result and an Individual Challenge where each participant has to complete up to 3 more challenging tasks. Points for the Individual Challenge will be counted as individual achievements as well as part of the team event.
